Unity Health Care Selects eClinicalWorks Unified EMR/PM Solution
The District’s Largest Community Health Center Implements Unified System to Streamline Operations Between 31 Community Health Center Locations, Including D.C. Department of Corrections
Westborough, Mass.—April 21, 2008—eClinicalWorksTM, a market leader in ambulatory clinical systems, today announced that Washington, D.C.’s Unity Health Care (Unity), the largest community health center (CHC) network in the District of Columbia, has purchased licenses of eClinicalWorks unified electronic medical records (EMR) and practice management (PM) solution for more than 100 providers to streamline practice operations between 31 locations and from patient check-in to check-out.
“Unity’s patients typically include the underserved, homeless, incarcerated and formerly incarcerated so obtaining up-to-date medical documentation is challenging,” said Vincent A. Keane, CEO/President, at Unity Health Care. “After an exhaustive review of EMR/PM systems, we chose eClinicalWorks for the versatile and user-friendly nature of its solution. eClinicalWorks and Unity are also working closely with our staff to ensure they receive the training required to meet their various skill levels.”
Unity has more than 31 locations across the District of Columbia, which provides healthcare to the area’s underserved populations, including those that are homeless, part of the District of Columbia’s Department of Correction Incarcerated and recently released from that department. After narrowing its selection down to two products, GE Centricity and eClinicalWorks, Unity has selected eClinicalWorks to streamline internal processes between practice locations and promote patient safety while reducing costs.
“Implementing an electronic medical records system that acts as a silo in one location is almost useless,” said Girish Kumar Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. “Unity’s challenge lays not only in the number of locations it has but the diverse nature of its patients – those same patients may change locations but that does not negate the need for providers to be able to access real-time, accurate medical records for them. The Web-based nature of eClinicalWorks EMR/PM solution and the versatility of the product to fit most practice types will enable Unity to provide optimal patient care, no matter which location the patient visits. Additionally, CHCs have extensive reporting needs that make our EMR/PM and Enterprise Business Optimizer an ideal platform.”
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), part of the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services, provided $1.4 million in grant-funding to Unity. HRSA is the primary Federal agency for improving access to health care services for people who are uninsured, isolated, or medically vulnerable.
