Florida’s Dr. Carlos A. Labrador Secures Maximum Medicare Incentives for Meaningful Use
eClinicalWorks Customer Since 2004 Improves Quality of Care, Receives $18,000 Check; 15 Physicians Using eClinicalWorks Obtain Incentives
WESTBOROUGH, Mass.—May 31, 2011—eClinicalWorks®, a market leader in ambulatory clinical systems, today announced that St. Petersburg, Fla.’s Dr. Carlos A. Labrador, a solo family practitioner and eClinicalWorks customer since 2004, has received an $18,000 check from the Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) after successfully attesting for meaningful use, the maximum amount allowed for 2011. These incentives were established by the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) to reward medical providers who successfully demonstrate meaningful use of an electronic health records (EHR) system in ways that improve the quality, safety and effectiveness of patient-centered care.
“Being an early adopter of electronic health records, we have long seen the value put forth by CMS through the meaningful use incentive,” said Dr. Carlos A. Labrador of St. Petersburg, Fla. “Our patients have benefitted from our use of a comprehensive, preventative-care oriented electronic health record. eClinicalWorks has been a great partner and we are proud to be a meaningful user.”
Dr. Labrador received his incentive after completing attestation on April 19 for Stage 1 of meaningful use. He is among 15 physicians using eClinicalWorks that have received the incentives, including Dr. Raj Naik of Bestcare Family & Geriatric, also in Fla.
Helping its customers through the attestation process, eClinicalWorks provides eClinicalWorks Meaningful Use, Adoption, and Quality (MAQ) Dashboards free of charge. To further meaningful use education, eClinicalWorks is conducting a series of RoadShows across the nation for medical providers, clinical staff and office administrators, with 20 shows already occurring and approximately 30 more planned in 2011. These are free interactive sessions on all 25 requirements of meaningful use and also demonstrate new features. There are also daily free Webinars educating customers on this topic. With the MAQ Dashboards, RoadShows, Webinars, newsletters, Meaningful Use Assessment, and others, eClinicalWorks has developed tools and educational resources to aid providers in becoming meaningful users.
“eClinicalWorks is focused on providing a comprehensive system that is preventative-care oriented, helping providers deliver a higher-level of care,” said Girish Kumar Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. “Since this initiative was announced as part of the HITECH Act, we have worked even harder to ensure that not only our system met all of the criteria, but also that our customers are educated on the guidelines. eClinicalWorks makes it easy for doctors to attest through MAQ Dashboards. We are excited for Dr. Labrador and all of our customers that have successfully attested.”
On July 13, 2010, the U.S. Health and Human Services Department released the final rule on meaningful use of an EHR under the HITECH Act. Signed into law by President Obama on February 17, 2009, the HITECH Act authorizes CMS to provide a reimbursement incentive for physician and hospital providers who demonstrate the meaningful use of an EHR.
