eClinicalWorks Customer Coastal Medical Receives HIMSS Davies Award
Rhode Island Group Achieves 200% Return on Investment for Implementing Electronic Health Records for 10% of State Population
WASHINGTON, D.C., eCLINICALWORKS USERS CONFERENCE—October 26, 2012—eClinicalWorks®, a market leader in ambulatory clinical systems, today announced that eClinicalWorks’ customer Coastal Medical, founded in Providence, R.I., has received a 2012 Ambulatory HIMSS Davies Award of Excellence. The award, recognizing outstanding achievement in the implementation and value from health information technology, specifically electronic health records (EHRs), will be awarded at the 2013 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition in New Orleans, La. on March 3-7, 2013.
“We are honored to have been given this award for excellence in health information technology development with eClinicalWorks,” said G. Alan Kurose, MD, President of Coastal Medical. “The clinical quality reporting capabilities of the EHR have resulted in our ability to measure our performance and take advantage of several pay-for-performance programs. eClinicalWorks was initially selected for its ease-of-use, flexibility in workflows, reporting capabilities, and affordability. Overall, our patient population is better served with the many tools provided by the EHR, such as real-time decision support, preventive maintenance alerts and reminders, and the Patient Portal for enhanced patient engagement between visits.”
“Coastal has realized a significant return on investment (ROI) on the EHR implementation in financial terms, organizationally, and in our improved ability to deliver quality care to our patients,” said Meryl Moss, MPA, COO of Coastal Medical. “The financial outcome of the EHR implementation has been overwhelmingly positive with a 200% return realized on our initial investment.”
The physician-owned, physician-governed medical organization has deployed eClinicalWorks’ EHR to more than 91 physicians serving more than 110,000 patients. The predominantly primary care group includes 19 offices across the state, which comprises 10 percent of the Rhode Island population.
From the HIMSS press release, “in 2006 and early 2007, Coastal implemented a fully integrated EHR in every office. The introduction of clinical quality measurement and reporting, and later Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) practice transformation, with all of its attendant changes in provider roles and office workflow, were experienced by providers as improvements in the delivery of clinical care that were enabled by EHR technology.”
“eClinicalWorks prides itself in demonstrating market leadership that enables practices to pursue recognition,” said Girish Kumar Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. “Throughout the partnership, continuous quality enhancements have been demonstrated resulting in improved valued outcomes for their patients all with the aid of an EHR. This marks the fifth consecutive year that an eClinicalWorks customer has been awarded the prestigious HIMSS Davies Award of Excellence, making us extremely proud and motivating us to take our solutions even further. We congratulate Coastal Medical on receiving this respected award.”
Coastal Medical joins New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, Open Door Family Medical Center, Urban Health Plan, White River Rural Health and New York Children’s Health Project as eClinicalWorks’ customers that have received HIMSS Davies Awards.
