Practice Using eClinicalWorks Improves Quality of Care, Receives $90,000 in Incentives

WESTBOROUGH, Mass.—July 27, 2011—eClinicalWorks®, a market leader in ambulatory clinical systems, today announced that five providers from Aquidneck Medical Associates of Newport, Rhode Island were among the first in the state to successfully attest for meaningful use and each have received an $18,000 check from the Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the maximum amount allowed for 2011. These incentives were established by the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) to reward medical providers who successfully demonstrate meaningful use of an electronic health records (EHR) system in ways that improve the quality, safety and effectiveness of patient-centered care.

“Successfully attesting for meaningful use is a testament to the work of the entire office, especially Jean Sanders, clinical project manager,” said Dr. David Gorelick of Aquidneck Medical Associates. “Their efforts along with eClinicalWorks have helped our practice enhance overall productivity and meet the requirements for meaningful use. Working with eClinicalWorks has improved our workflow, creating efficiencies and overall a higher quality of care. The MAQ Dashboards within the system made it easy to evaluate our performance for each measure, thereby helping us focus on measures that needed increased attention and documentation in preparation for successfully attesting to meaningful use.”

Helping its customers through the attestation process, eClinicalWorks provides eClinicalWorks Meaningful Use, Adoption, and Quality (MAQ) Dashboards free of charge. To further meaningful use education, eClinicalWorks is conducting a series of RoadShows across the nation for medical providers, clinical staff and office administrators with 25 already occurring and approximately 25 more planned in 2011. These are free interactive sessions on all 25 requirments of meaningful use and also demonstrate new features. There are also daily free webinars educating customers on this topic. With the MAQ Dashboards, RoadShows, webinars, newsletters, Meaningful Use Assessment and others, eClinicalWorks has developed tools and educational resources to aid providers in becoming meaningful users.

Dr. Gorelick recently presented at eClinicalWorks RoadShow in Providence, Rhode Island on July 20, 2011. He shared insights from his experience in the attestation process and the importance of the role of practice administrators in achieving Meaningful Use.

“eClinicalWorks provides a comprehensive system that enables practices to pursue quality of care initiatives, including meaningful use,” said Girish Kumar Navani, CEO and co-founder of eClinicalWorks. “Since the federal government announced this initiative, we have been diligent ensuring that not only our system meet all of the criteria, but also that our customers are educated on the guidelines. eClinicalWorks is excited for Aquidneck Medical Association and all of our clients who have successfully attested.”

On July 13, 2010, the U.S. Health and Human Services Department released the final rule on meaningful use of an EHR under the HITECH Act. Signed into law by President Obama on February 17, 2009, the HITECH Act authorizes CMS to provide a reimbursement incentive for physician and hospital providers who demonstrate the meaningful use of an EHR.
