Technological advancements are key to improving efficiency and patient care in the healthcare industry. It’s especially crucial in specialty practices like Rheumatology, where precision and comprehensive documentation are vital.

eClinicalWorks (eCW) recently introduced a rheumatology workflow to facilitate joint documentation of a patient’s Progress Notes. It simplifies the documentation of joint conditions and elevates the standard of patient care through its intuitive and comprehensive features. A user-friendly interface means rheumatologists, orthopedists, and physical therapists can document joint conditions and use disease activity calculators to calculate scores—integration with the EHR further aids in delivering accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.

How It Works

Once you’ve set up the module, the ‘homunculus examination’ hyperlink will appear in the Progress Notes. This aids in the thorough documentation of a patient’s joint conditions.

Innovative Layout

The left side of the module integrates a 2D image feature, allowing you to pinpoint specific areas of concern and create detailed records. The right side has a tabular form chart.

Interactive Tool

Select one or more joints in the figure you wish to document or from the drop-down menu. After selecting the joints, the center section will become active with four pre-set conditions: swelling, tenderness, normal, and replacement. You can configure any other condition that you want to be displayed. You then select the conditions and click on the ‘save the table’ button.

Simplified Updates

After this step, the documentation will appear on the tabular chart on the right. The table and the values within can be easily modified. There is an option at the top right of the window to import data from previous visits.

Disease Activity Calculator

You’ll find this option at the bottom right of the window. This feature simplifies the calculation of the Clinical Disease Activity Index (CDAI) or Disease Activity Score 28 (DAS28).

Easy Tracking

Also, the module pre-populates the number of swollen and tender joints. You enter the values into the relevant fields, and the CDAI or DAS28 score is calculated automatically. This ensures precision and saves time that can be redirected to patient care.
