P2POpen Network Exchanges 1.5 Million Medical Referrals
eClinicalWorks Also Receives EHNAC-DirectTrust Accreditation, Further Demonstrating its Commitment to Interoperability
WESTBOROUGH, Mass.—July 29, 2015—eClinicalWorks®, a leader in ambulatory healthcare IT solutions, today announces its free, electronic health record (EHR) vendor-neutral network, P2POpen, has exchanged one and a half million referrals between medical providers utilizing a variety of systems. Total communications to date is two million referrals, consults and messages for this network that ensures healthcare providers can connect with each other for patient care regardless of what EHR system is in use or if the practice is using paper records. The company has taken an additional step by receiving full accreditation as a health information service provider, or HISP, from EHNAC-DirectTrust for eClinicalWorks’ eClinicalDirect.

In order to maximize investments in electronic health records, pertinent information related to patient care needs to be exchanged regardless of the system used. A lack of interoperability is a significant barrier to patient satisfaction and improving patient care. To that end, eClinicalWorks has been pursing multiple avenues to ensure interoperability in several formats. eClinicalWorks P2POpen network is an open peer to peer network of 84,000 providers, 1 in 5 of whom are using a different EHR system than eClinicalWorks, that share relevant information between providers regardless of the system they are using. This system-neutral solution allows the open, electronic transfer of records between any healthcare provider.
Separately, DirectTrust, a non-profit healthcare industry alliance that advances secure and trusted heath information exchange by the Direct Protocol, has awarded eClinicalDirect full accreditation in the EHNAC-DirectTrust Direct Trusted Agent Accreditation Program (DTAAP).

- Easily find and connect with providers;
- Send electronic referrals to other providers along with demographic and insurance information, saving time and reducing errors;
- Transmit patient records with attachments, including progress notes, lab results, medical summary and patient scanned documents;
- Automatically receive recommended providers in the area;
- Find providers using a member-specified radius and specialty; and
- Build personal address book.
